Winona Ryder Professionally Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her in honor of her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder is a Jewish. Ryder believes that her father had an ethnically Jewish background. She is the younger sister of Uria and half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder moved with her family members to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. They didn't have electricity. Ryder was an avid reader and spent her time reading a book because she was not able to watch TV. Ryder began to study acting in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983, when she was 12. When she was 15, Ryder was cast in Lucas the first of her major film. Ryder was bullied in the school she attended. The hope was that she would be able to end this. But, unfortunately, that didn't come to pass. But she kept working towards the goals she had set. In 1988, she received her breakthrough role in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder was able to continue her successful parts in a variety of films. In 1993 she was nominated two times to win Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part In The Age of Innocence.
